Serves 4 | Total time: 15 minutes | Active time: 10 minutes

When the afternoon pushes past ninety and everyone's gone quiet and sun-drowsy, this is the pitcher that brings them back to life.

This sparkling watermelon mint cooler mocktail is four ingredients, one blender, and about ten minutes of effort. It's naturally sweet, totally alcohol-free, and safe for the kids to guzzle by the glass — which they will. It's also endlessly sippable on the patio, and honestly even better poolside after an evening in the swim spa.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups watermelon, cubed
  • 1 cup sparkling water
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • Ice cubes
  • Mint sprigs, for garnish

A note on watermelon: Choose a watermelon that feels heavy for its size, has a uniform shape, and sounds hollow when tapped. Look for a yellowish field spot on the outside, which indicates ripeness.

How to Make the Watermelon Cooler

  1. In a blender, add the cubed watermelon and blend until smooth.
  2. Strain the watermelon puree through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher to remove any pulp.
  3. Stir the fresh lime juice and mint leaves into the watermelon juice until combined.
  4. Fill glasses with ice cubes, then pour the watermelon and mint mixture over the top.
  5. Top each glass with sparkling water and garnish with mint sprigs.
  6. Serve immediately for the best fizz and freshness.

Why Straining Matters

It's tempting to skip the sieve, but don't. Straining is what turns this from a thick smoothie into a proper cooler — light, clear, and fizzy all the way down the glass. It takes two extra minutes and makes the whole drink feel like something from a patio bar instead of a blender jar.

Serving It for a Crowd

Double the batch and keep the watermelon-mint base chilled in the fridge, then top each glass with sparkling water as guests arrive so the fizz stays lively. Set the pitcher out on the patio furniture with a bowl of ice and a pile of mint sprigs and let people build their own — it disappears fast.
